Overview
Troop formations are one of the most critical strategic decisions in Kingshot. Sending the right mix of Infantry, Cavalry, and Archers can mean the difference between a decisive victory and a crushing defeat. This guide covers the optimal ratios for every game mode.
Troop Types Explained
| Troop Type | HP | Attack | Defense | Speed | Role |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Infantry | High | Low | High | Slow | Tank / Front Line |
| Cavalry | Medium | Medium | Medium | Fast | Flanker / Burst |
| Archers | Low | High | Low | Medium | DPS / Back Line |
Combat Mechanics
Battles in Kingshot are described as turn-based with simultaneous attacks, but in practice, Infantry attack first, then Cavalry, then Archers. This order matters because:
- Infantry absorb damage and trade blows at the front line first
- Cavalry provide mid-fight burst and can pressure back lines
- Archers deal the most damage overall but need time (and protection) to work
Default Formation (5:2:3)
The most common and reliable formation is 50% Infantry, 20% Cavalry, 30% Archers (5:2:3). If you're unsure what to use, this is your go-to for most open-field battles and rallies.
The logic: Infantry provide enough tanking to let your Archers (your main damage) survive long enough to deal damage. Cavalry add burst and flexibility without being too squishy.
Garrison Formation
For city defense, the recommended ratio is 60% Infantry, 20% Cavalry, 20% Archers (6:2:2). In some cases, pure 70% Infantry, 30% Cavalry, 0% Archers (7:3:0) is used because garrison battles favor high-HP compositions.
Bear Hunt Formation
The Bear Hunt requires a DPS-heavy composition: 5-10% Infantry, 20-30% Cavalry, 60-70% Archers (roughly 1:2:7 or 1:3:7). The minimum Infantry count should be ~5,000 to ensure Infantry hero skills trigger. Archers deal the most damage against the Bear.
Common Mistakes
- Sending equal ratios (33/33/33) — this wastes each troop type's strengths
- Not scouting before PvP — always check the enemy's composition first
- Using too few Infantry — your damage dealers die before they can contribute
- Ignoring Cavalry entirely — even 20% Cavalry adds meaningful burst damage
